HPR Alumnus Earns Accreditation
Deanna McKinley, former Howland PR account executive, earned Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). In a special ceremony at the Park Cities Club in Dallas, Deanna was pinned by Samra Bufkins, APR Chair for PRSA’s Dallas Chapter.

National Urban League’s Whitney M. Young Awards Gala
Tanya DeVaughn, account executive, Howland PR poses with Bonnie Boswell, niece of the late Whitney M. Young at the 2007 Whitney M. Young Awards Gala during the National Urban League conference. Ms. Boswell is writing a documentary about her uncle’s life.
As part of Howland PR’s consultancy with the Ford Foundation, Rose Blair, vice president, Howland PR and Tanya DeVaughn, account executive, Howland PR traveled to Lagos, Nigeria in West Africa to conduct skills assessments and present a capacity building workshop. The Ford Foundation’s media, arts and culture grantees traveled from Ghana and other parts of West Africa to the workshop at the Bambuddha Restaurant and Conference Center on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

In 2006, Lyria Howland received the Heroes of Hope, Above and

story of a lifetime of success in her inspirational keynote address
at the luncheon.

Quest for Success Awards Luncheon Masters of Ceremony John

with award winners and alumni following the 2001 program. Ms.
Howland co-founded the Quest for Success Awards program in 1985
to honor Dallas and Fort Worth Black entrepreneurs. With over
2,000 attendees, it is the largest Black History Month observance
of its kind in the Southwest and one of Texas’ largest
business awards programs. The Quest for Success is sponsored
by the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, The Dallas Morning
News and CHASE.
At the Public Relations Society of America’s 2001 International

Associates. Howland was honored with the 2001 D. Parke Gibson
Award for her contributions to diversity within her community,
her profession and on her clients’ behalf.
In 1995 and again in 1999 Lyria Howland served on the campaign
staff and steering committee for the victorious Ron Kirk for Mayor
Campaigns. She became a member of Mayor Kirk’s “kitchen
cabinet,” and Howland PR went on to provide public relations
consulting and event planning for the Friends of Ron Kirk.
Howland PR directed Dallas’ host committee for the 2000
convention of the National Conference of Black Mayors, which exceeded
all previous NCBM convention records for sponsorships, attendance
and media coverage.
